The Machakos County Assembly has passed a partial budget of Sh8.9 billion, representing 50% of the total Sh17.7 billion allocation, to fund crucial services and employee wages. This move comes amid an ongoing dispute between the county’s Executive branch and the Assembly, specifically concerning the Finance department. The partial approval was required due to delays stemming from the disagreement over the Finance docket. County Assembly Members recently impeached the Finance CECM, Catherine, further escalating the situation. The approved funds will allow essential operations to continue while the dispute is resolved. The remaining portion of the budget remains unapproved until the Finance issue is addressed. This situation highlights tensions between the two branches of Machakos County government.
