Morocco’s competition council has launched an investigation into the luxury perfume and cosmetics market following a complaint by Wafaa Ghiati, founder of the Drugstores du Maroc retail chain. Ghiati alleges that three import companies have been blocking access to the market for new retailers through practices such as refusing sales, employing opaque criteria, and imposing fixed pricing. These actions reportedly prevented Drugstores du Maroc from securing distribution agreements with several brands for a period of three years. The investigation will focus on whether these import companies are engaging in anti-competitive behavior. The case highlights concerns about market access and fair competition within Morocco’s luxury goods sector. The outcome of the probe could significantly impact the distribution landscape for high-end cosmetics in the country.
