A 12th-century manuscript in Poland has yielded two previously unknown sermons attributed to St. Augustine. The discovery, made at the Diocesan Library of Pelplin, provides fresh perspectives on Augustine’s views regarding magic, mortality, and the nature of divine power. Scholars have authenticated the sermons, adding to the existing body of work by the highly influential early Christian theologian. The texts offer valuable insight into intellectual and religious debates of the period. This finding expands understanding of Augustine’s prolific writings and his engagement with complex theological issues. Researchers believe the sermons were lost for centuries, hidden within the larger medieval compilation. Further study is expected to reveal more details about the sermons’ context and significance.
