The former head of a Lithuanian transport company operating extensively in Norway has been sentenced to eight months in prison for the gross underpayment of approximately 200 truck drivers. Vladas Stoncius Jr., who led Vlantana Norge, was found guilty of violating Norwegian labour laws, including those concerning working conditions and minimum wage. The company gained a significant market share in Norway after its establishment in 2012, but was later exposed for systematically underpaying its Lithuanian drivers through falsified timesheets. Consequently, Vlantana Norge lost its transport licenses and declared bankruptcy in 2020. The Romerike and Glåmdal district court convicted Stoncius Jr. under multiple laws, marking a strong stance against labour exploitation. The ruling is currently subject to appeal, meaning it is not yet final.
