A fire erupted Monday afternoon in the Boschhuizerbergen nature reserve near Venray, Limburg, consuming at least 21 hectares of woodland. As a precaution, approximately 300 guests were evacuated from the De Oude Barrier campground in Smakt. Among those displaced was 83-year-old Irma Linders, a Venray resident, who was forced to leave quickly. Linders expressed distress at having to abandon her two cats due to the rapid evacuation order. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze, the cause of which is currently unknown. Authorities prioritized public safety by initiating the campground evacuation. The extent of the damage is still being assessed after the fire subsides.
