Lawyers for journalist Chahana Takiou have filed a request for his provisional release. Takiou, the director of the newspaper 22 Septembre, has been imprisoned since June 8. He was detained after criticizing the judiciary's misuse of press laws. Takiou is currently facing health issues while in custody. Another journalist, Abdrahamane Keita, director of Le Témoin, has also been imprisoned since June 9. Keita was detained for reporting that jihadists from the JNIM control the city of Kidal. Unlike Takiou, Keita's lawyers have not yet filed for release. Meanwhile, the Press House has initiated institutional contacts to secure the release of these two journalists and a third detained colleague.
