A recently implemented ceasefire in Lebanon has not resulted in the return of displaced residents to their homes. Tens of thousands remain uprooted due to extensive damage from Israeli strikes. Many towns in southern Lebanon are currently occupied by the Israeli military, preventing residents from returning. Hussein Merhi is one example of a displaced person whose home was destroyed and whose town is now under Israeli control. The ceasefire, while bringing relative calm, does not address the fundamental issue of uninhabitable homes and ongoing occupation. This leaves a significant portion of the population in a precarious situation with no immediate prospect of return. The situation highlights the limitations of the truce in resolving the underlying causes of displacement.
