Nelson Salas Stevens has stepped in to defend Senator Miguel Ángel Calisto following the withdrawal of previous legal counsel Jorge Bofill and César Ramos, after the Constitutional Court rejected their appeal. Salas, formerly with the Public Criminal Defense Office, brings with him colleagues from the same institution to tackle the case. The senator faces charges of fraud against the public treasury, and the case may be expanding. Previously, Salas has represented other prominent figures involved in cases of public interest, including former deputy Juan Manuel Fuenzalida. The evolving situation now includes allegations of bribery within Junaeb, adding another layer of complexity to Calisto’s defense. Salas will now lead the legal strategy as the fraud investigation continues and potential new accusations emerge.
