A man, identified as 35-year-old Md. Shafi, sustained severe injuries after stepping on a landmine near the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchiri, Bandarban. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:30 PM, resulting in the amputation of his right ankle and a fractured left knee. Shafi, a resident of Rezum Amtali, was subsequently rescued and transported to a hospital within the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar for medical treatment. This is not the first such incident reported in the area, raising concerns about the presence of landmines along the border. Authorities have not yet commented on the origin of the mine or the circumstances surrounding the blast. The area remains sensitive due to its proximity to the Myanmar border and ongoing regional instability.
