Kosovo-born, Austria-based painter Gazmend Freitag has received the prestigious title of “Painter of the Year 2025” during a ceremony in Gjirokastër. The award, presented by the League of Albanian Writers, Artists and Creators “PEGASI” Albania, recognizes Freitag’s career-long exploration of themes like memory, displacement, and identity. His work aims to connect cultures through artistic expression. The ceremony was held as part of the cultural event Festaniada of Titles, a cooperative effort between the Pegasian Alternative Academy of Albania and the Alternative Academy of Brazil. Freitag, of Albanian origin, has established a significant artistic presence while based in Austria. This honor acknowledges his contribution to the Albanian art scene and his ability to resonate with universal human experiences.
