For nearly 700 years, bird’s nest harvesting has been a defining tradition in Khánh Hòa province, Vietnam, evolving into a unique cultural heritage. The practice originated from the cliffs of Hòn Nội island and has been carefully preserved through generations. Khánh Hòa’s swiftlet nest industry is now recognized as a “living heritage,” reflecting a deep connection between the community and the marine environment. A festival, scheduled for 2026, aims to commemorate the history of this profession and honor those who have sustained it. The festival will also serve to promote awareness of the cultural significance of this enduring practice. It represents both an economic activity and a vital part of Khánh Hòa’s identity.
