The Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) is extending its successful ecosystem recovery efforts from its ten-year base to the severely eroded Kerio Valley. Founded and supported by National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, the initiative aims to address significant ecological damage in the region. The program utilizes “Juncao” grass, alongside income-generating crops, to stabilize fragile slopes and prevent further erosion. This approach simultaneously tackles environmental concerns and provides economic opportunities for local communities. The expansion targets landscapes experiencing acute ecological stress, offering a sustainable solution to land degradation. KICP’s model demonstrates a combined approach to conservation and economic empowerment, aiming for long-term environmental resilience in Kerio Valley.
