Kenya has finalized a $1.2 billion deal with China Road and Bridge Corporation for a significant expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi. Transport Minister Davis Chirchir announced the agreement on Tuesday, outlining plans to nearly triple the airport’s annual passenger capacity. Currently handling 7.5 million passengers annually, JKIA will be able to accommodate 22 million after the expansion is complete. The project aims to address growing air travel demand in East Africa and solidify Nairobi’s position as a regional aviation hub. The deal, valued at 154.2 billion Kenyan shillings, signifies continued infrastructure investment in the country. Details regarding the project timeline and specific construction phases have not yet been released. This expansion represents a major investment in Kenya’s transportation infrastructure.
