Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture is developing strategies to integrate research outputs and policy briefs into national planning frameworks. Principal Secretary Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh highlighted that the country currently fails to meet the African Union’s Maputo Declaration target. This international agreement mandates that nations allocate at least one percent of their GDP to agricultural research and development. To address this gap, the ministry is advocating for increased budget allocations to foster scientific innovation. The goal is to leverage research to ensure Africa can achieve self-sufficiency in food production. By prioritizing R&D, Kenya aims to modernize its farming sector and enhance overall food security. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to science-led agricultural transformation across the continent.
