Kenya’s State Department for Correctional Services is partnering with Telio Group to introduce a new secure telephone system for inmates. The initial phase will deploy the technology to four correctional facilities, aiming to facilitate safer and more reliable communication between inmates and their families. This initiative addresses longstanding concerns about communication access and security within the prison system. The system will provide secure telephony services, potentially improving inmate well-being and rehabilitation prospects through maintained family connections. Authorities anticipate this will be a crucial step in modernizing correctional services in Kenya. Further expansion to additional facilities is expected following the evaluation of the first phase implementation. The project marks a significant move toward prisoner welfare and reform within the country’s correctional system.
