Kazakhstan has begun a significant dredging project at the port of Aktau, aiming to increase cargo capacity along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also called the Middle Corridor. The project is being carried out by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and intends to bolster Kazakhstan’s position as a crucial transportation and logistics center connecting Asia and Europe. This expansion seeks to facilitate increased trade volume through the Middle Corridor, offering an alternative route for goods between the two continents. The initiative underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to developing its transport infrastructure. The upgraded port is expected to handle a greater volume of cargo, streamlining the flow of goods and reducing transit times. This development is particularly relevant given current geopolitical factors impacting traditional trade routes.
