Kazakhstan has officially authorized the creation of a United Nations Regional Center dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the ratification law on June 17th, formalizing the agreement. The center will be located in Almaty and represents the first UN regional hub specifically focused on SDG implementation in the region. This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding establishing the framework for the center’s operations. The initiative aims to bolster sustainable development efforts across Central Asia and Afghanistan through enhanced regional cooperation and UN support. Kazakhstan’s approval signifies its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its role as a regional leader. The center is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs.
