Mamadou Kassé, former member of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), has officially joined Kiiraay – Les Patriotes Républicains, the party of Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This move follows his resignation from the APR on September 11, 2026, after a long-term commitment to the party of ex-President Macky Sall. The decision came after Kassé was received at the Presidential Palace, though details of their discussion were initially unconfirmed. As president of the Departmental Council of Tambacounda, Kassé’s departure represents a significant loss for Sall’s party in the east of Senegal. Kassé described his decision as a carefully considered personal choice, expressing gratitude to Sall for past opportunities and acknowledging his long association. However, APR officials in Tambacounda have requested he relinquish his position as council president, as he secured it while affiliated with their party.
