Police have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in a recent acid attack on a 35-year-old woman in Karachi’s Gizri area. The woman sustained burns to her face, neck, and abdomen, covering 15 percent of her body, and is receiving treatment at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. The suspect fled to his hometown of Rajanpur in Punjab following the attack, but was apprehended with the assistance of Sindh Police after permission was obtained from the Home Department to pursue him. The Sindh Home Minister ordered an immediate investigation and arrest, emphasizing the severity of the crime. This arrest follows a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year designating acid attacks as more heinous than homicide, acknowledging the lifelong suffering inflicted upon victims. The suspect will be brought back to Karachi to face legal proceedings.
