Kajiado County has successfully resolved 280 land disputes utilizing an Alternative Justice System (AJS). This system offers a quicker, community-focused approach to resolving longstanding land conflicts compared to traditional court proceedings. The AJS prioritizes alternative dispute resolution methods, aiming to alleviate pressure on the formal court system and reduce case backlogs. Crucially, the process empowers local councils of elders and religious leaders to play a central role in mediation and conflict resolution. This initiative provides residents with a more accessible and culturally sensitive avenue for addressing land-related grievances. The AJS demonstrates a commitment to community-based solutions for land management and dispute resolution in the region. The program’s success suggests a potential model for addressing similar issues in other areas.
