Over 20,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, due to escalating attacks by jihadist groups, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Recent raids have significantly worsened the humanitarian situation in the region, adding to an already substantial number of internally displaced persons. The IOM is working to provide assistance to those affected, but access remains a major challenge due to ongoing insecurity. This latest wave of displacement brings the total number of people displaced by the conflict since 2017 to over 784,000. The violence is concentrated in the northern districts of the province, disrupting livelihoods and exacerbating existing vulnerabilities. The IOM emphasizes the urgent need for increased humanitarian support to address the growing crisis and protect civilians. Continued instability threatens to further destabilize the region and hinder development efforts.
