Indonesia has reopened Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and four other airports following disruptions caused by volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau. Nearly 3,000 flights were impacted, affecting approximately 341,000 travellers. The airports were initially closed after eruptions from the volcano, located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, released ash over Jakarta and surrounding regions starting Friday. The ash posed a hazard to air travel, leading to widespread flight cancellations and delays. Authorities monitored the situation closely before deeming it safe to resume operations. The reopening of the airports will alleviate travel chaos and allow stranded passengers to continue their journeys.
