Negotiations between US and Iranian delegations in Switzerland, aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East, were suspended after President Donald Trump issued a threat against Iran. Trump warned of potential bombing of Iranian targets due to its support for Hezbollah in Lebanon. The talks, which involved Qatari mediation, were intended to initiate a 60-day period for resolving broader US-Iran issues through a mutual understanding agreement. However, the situation in Lebanon became a sticking point. Iranian state media reported its delegation left the meeting location following Trump’s social media post. Despite the suspension, a diplomatic source indicated the talks haven’t been entirely abandoned. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed his country’s military presence in southern Lebanon and pledged to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The initial 80-minute session reportedly focused on a memorandum of understanding and the Lebanese issue, without addressing nuclear concerns.
