Iran has declined a US request to include International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi in upcoming negotiations with Washington in Switzerland. According to a source familiar with the matter, the US sought Grossi’s presence during the talks. Iranian officials reportedly dismissed this proposal, indicating a preference for direct bilateral discussions. The negotiations aim to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This development suggests continued friction between Iran and the US regarding the scope and format of the talks. The IAEA has been a key player in monitoring Iran’s nuclear program, and its involvement could potentially address concerns about verification and compliance. However, Iran appears to be prioritizing a direct dialogue with the US at this stage.
