While family members and acquaintances also contribute to female homicides (18% and 16% respectively), intimate partner violence remains a dominant factor. Overall, homicides in the Netherlands are at a 30-year low, with 103 deaths reported in 2025. However, the data highlights the urgent need to address domestic violence and its devastating consequences, especially for women and children - with parents being suspects in 20 child homicides over the last five years.
