Indonesia’s Minister of Agraria and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, Nusron Wahid, has disclosed receiving numerous reports of illegal land grabbing occurring in Indonesian waters. These claims involve the partitioning and, in many instances, the outright sale of sea territories without proper legal procedures. The minister specifically highlighted Batam as a major area where this practice is prevalent. This illegal “kapling” (partitioning) of the sea raises serious concerns about maritime sovereignty and resource management. Wahid indicated his commitment to addressing these violations and initiating investigations into the illicit activities. The lack of standardized procedures and oversight contributed to the rampant illegal claiming. He emphasized the need for stronger regulations and enforcement to protect Indonesia’s marine resources and territorial integrity.
