Indonesia’s Commission VIII of the House of Representatives has approved an additional budget of Rp4.6 trillion (approximately $287 million USD) for the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the indicative budget year 2027. This funding will be allocated towards providing monthly incentives of Rp1 million (approximately $62 USD) to non-tenured Madrasah teachers, beginning in 2027. The decision aims to support educators in these Islamic schools who currently lack formal employment benefits. The approved budget increase was part of a broader discussion regarding the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ financial needs for the upcoming year. Officials anticipate this incentive will improve the welfare and motivation of Madrasah teachers across the country. The initiative addresses longstanding concerns about the financial stability of educators in non-permanent positions within the Madrasah system. Further details regarding the implementation of the stipend program are expected to be released by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
