A joint operation involving the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, and the Military Police Center has disrupted an illegal wildlife trafficking operation originating from Papua. Authorities successfully prevented the smuggling of 100 protected animal species. The operation targeted the illicit trade of endangered wildlife from the Papua region. Two individuals identified as state officials have been arrested in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the trafficking network and identify additional individuals involved. This bust highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade within Indonesia and protect its biodiversity. Confiscated animals are being secured for rehabilitation and eventual release where possible.
