Indonesian authorities have arrested a man in Padang, West Sumatra, suspected of trading in protected wildlife parts. The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) made the arrest following an investigation into illegal wildlife trade. Confiscated from the suspect was one sack of pangolin scales. Pangolins are critically endangered mammals whose scales are highly sought after in traditional medicine. This arrest represents a crackdown on the illicit wildlife trade that threatens Indonesia’s biodiversity. Further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network. The suspect now faces legal prosecution for violating wildlife protection laws.
