Indonesia is preparing to offer its most significant tariff reductions to date within a forthcoming trade agreement with the European Union. Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan revealed the deal, known as the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), will involve substantial concessions to facilitate increased trade. While specific details remain confidential, the minister emphasized the importance of the agreement for boosting Indonesian exports and attracting foreign investment. Negotiations have been ongoing for several years, facing challenges related to sustainability standards and market access. The agreement is expected to cover a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and services. Officials anticipate the IEU-CEPA will significantly enhance economic cooperation between Indonesia and the EU, despite the significant tariff adjustments.
