Indonesia has been elected to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2026-2030 period. The election took place during the 20th General Assembly of States Parties to the 2003 Convention concerning the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris. This marks a significant achievement for Indonesia’s commitment to preserving global cultural diversity. As a member, Indonesia will play a crucial role in determining which cultural heritage elements receive international protection and support. The committee is responsible for implementing the convention and providing guidance to states on safeguarding intangible heritage. Indonesia’s election reflects international recognition of its active role in promoting and protecting its own rich cultural traditions, as well as its dedication to collaborative cultural preservation efforts worldwide. This position allows Indonesia to further advocate for the importance of intangible cultural heritage on a global stage.
