Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has announced the suspension of its free nutritious meal program for students during school holidays. The decision, formalized in a circular letter, aims to generate savings of IDR 3 trillion (approximately USD $187 million) from incentive funds related to the School Operational Assistance (SPPG). The program, known as Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG), will not be implemented during the 18-day holiday period. BGN officials stated the funds saved will be reallocated to other nutritional programs. This move has sparked debate regarding potential impacts on student nutrition during breaks from school. The circular, numbered 12 of 2026, provides details on the program’s temporary halt. Further information regarding the reallocation of funds is expected to be released by BGN.
