The Indonesian Ministry of Human Rights (Kemenham) is launching a program to bolster human rights awareness and implementation at the grassroots level. This year, the ministry will recruit and train 200 human rights advocates to operate within villages and urban wards across the country. The initiative aims to strengthen understanding of human rights principles and facilitate their practical application within local communities. Kemenham believes this decentralized approach will be crucial in promoting and protecting human rights throughout Indonesia. These “penggerak” (drivers/movers) will serve as key figures in educating residents and advocating for rights-based policies. The program represents a shift towards a more localized and participatory approach to human rights promotion. It is expected to contribute to a broader culture of respect for human dignity and the rule of law.
