Indonesian authorities have suspended operations at six airports following new eruptions from the Anak Krakatau volcano on Sunday, according to AFP. The volcano is located between the islands of Sumatra and Java. Affected airports include the country’s largest, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, situated in the capital city of Jakarta. Eruptions from the volcano began on Friday, and by Sunday, had resulted in over 300 flight cancellations, with 58 being international flights. The closures are a precautionary measure due to volcanic ash posing a risk to aviation. Officials continue to monitor the situation and assess the ongoing volcanic activity impacting air travel across Indonesia. Authorities have not specified when the airports will reopen.
