Indonesia’s government plans to construct 100 modern rice warehouses across the country to strengthen national food security and stabilize prices. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced the $136 million (IDR 2.1 trillion) project will significantly increase the nation’s rice storage capacity. These warehouses will utilize modern technology to reduce post-harvest losses, currently estimated at a substantial 6.2 million tons annually. The initiative aims to minimize rice price fluctuations, particularly during harvest seasons when supply often exceeds demand. Construction is slated to begin immediately, with completion expected in the near future. The project is a key component of the government’s broader strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production and ensure food availability for its population. The new facilities will also improve the quality of stored rice, benefiting both farmers and consumers.
