India’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, recently completed a visit to Tibet, signaling a potential warming of relations between the two nations. Doraiswami, who assumed his Beijing post last month and is fluent in Chinese, arrived in Lhasa on Thursday. The primary purpose of the visit was to assess arrangements for Indian pilgrims traveling to Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Manasarovar, significant religious sites. This trip marks the first visit to Tibet by an Indian ambassador since 2018. The move is viewed as a positive step following a period of strained relations, particularly after border clashes in 2020. The Indian embassy confirmed the visit via a social media statement, highlighting the focus on facilitating religious tourism. It suggests a renewed effort to engage with China on issues of mutual concern and improve overall diplomatic communication.
