India continues to heavily rely on the Middle East for its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies, according to S&P Global’s Pulkit Agarwal. Despite geopolitical concerns and potential disruptions, no viable alternative sourcing region currently exists to replace Middle Eastern supplies. The stability of LPG flows through the Strait of Hormuz is therefore crucial for India’s energy security. Agarwal indicated that while diversification efforts are underway, they are not yet sufficient to significantly reduce dependence. Any prolonged disruption in the region would likely impact Indian consumers and the nation’s energy sector. The report highlights the complex interplay between geopolitical factors and India’s energy import needs, emphasizing the current lack of readily available substitutes.
