Four independently elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have joined Abdul Aleem Khan’s Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP), marking the party’s first representation in the regional assembly. The members represent constituencies in Ghanche, Diamer, and Ghizer. This move follows recent general elections where the IPP failed to secure any directly elected seats. The development is occurring amidst ongoing negotiations for government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) poised to lead with support from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which will sit in opposition. The PML-N has pledged to support the PPP’s bid to form a government. The PPP currently holds 11 seats, the PML-N six, and independents now number four, with results pending in three constituencies.
