Prosecutors in Kochkor district, Kyrgyzstan, have recovered 30 hectares of irrigated farmland illegally leased to a private farm in 1996. The land, located in the Ersary-Shaytan-Kashar area of Cholpon-Ayl rural municipality, was granted a 99-year lease in violation of existing land laws. The General Prosecutor’s Office reported the finding after an investigation into compliance with land legislation. The long-term lease was deemed unlawful, prompting authorities to reclaim the agricultural land for the state. This action aims to rectify past legal violations concerning land allocation practices. The recovered land will now be managed by the state, potentially for reallocation or public use. This case highlights ongoing efforts to review and correct irregularities in land ownership across the country.
