The IEEE Standards Association has released a new framework aimed at fostering responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) development for use with children. This initiative seeks to establish a “trusted safety formula” to mitigate risks and safeguard young users in the digital world. The framework addresses concerns surrounding data privacy, algorithmic bias, and potential exposure to harmful content online. Developed through a global, consensus-building process, it provides guidance for developers, policymakers, and educators. The IEEE emphasizes the necessity of prioritizing child wellbeing as AI technologies become increasingly integrated into children’s lives, particularly in online environments. This framework is intended to promote ethical considerations and responsible innovation in the realm of AI for children worldwide, ensuring a safer and more beneficial digital experience for young people. The goal is to help protect children in locations like Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya, amongst others.
