A historic oak tree in Sherwood Forest, long associated with the legend of Robin Hood, has died. Experts confirm the tree, estimated to be between 800 and 1200 years old, failed to produce any new leaves this spring – a first in recorded history. The tree was a major attraction, drawing thousands of tourists to Nottinghamshire each year. It ranked among the largest oaks in Britain and held significant cultural importance. The cause of death is currently unspecified, but the lack of new growth indicates a severe decline. Its loss marks the end of an era for the famed forest and its connection to the legendary outlaw.
