Hungary swiftly delivered 5,000 tonnes of stone to Paks in a single day to combat the drastically falling water levels of the Danube River. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government orchestrated the delivery to ensure the continued operation of the Paks nuclear power plant. The unusually low water levels posed a significant threat to the plant's cooling systems, which rely on the river. Without intervention, Orbán indicated, the plant may have been forced to halt operations, potentially impacting Hungary’s energy supply. The stone is being used to raise the riverbed and ensure sufficient water intake for the plant.
