The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) of Hungary has targeted closed Facebook groups dedicated to selling sneakers and slippers. Undercover inspectors placed five separate orders for footwear from these groups to test compliance. The investigation revealed that none of the sellers provided a legal receipt for the transactions. Consequently, the tax authority has imposed fines totaling millions of forints. This crackdown aims to combat the shadow economy and unregistered commercial activities on social media. The operation highlights the government's effort to ensure all retail sales are properly documented. Sellers are now facing significant financial penalties for their failure to comply with tax laws.
