Former Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has withdrawn from a defamation lawsuit he initiated against the news outlet Telex. The lawsuit stemmed from an article published by Telex concerning a Samsung-related matter. Szijjártó initially announced his intent to sue Telex in February, but never filed a formal press law claim. Instead, he pursued a personal rights claim, requesting a court hearing, from which he has now retreated before the first session. As a result of withdrawing the suit, Szijjártó may be required to pay Telex approximately 825,000 Hungarian Forints in legal costs. This development is being viewed as a potential sign of political pressure and a positive outcome for media freedom in Hungary.
