A new study reveals nearly all Hungarian female members of parliament have experienced sexism, including online sexual harassment and psychological abuse. Shockingly, none of these representatives reported the incidents. The research, conducted across five European countries, indicates a particularly high prevalence of such abuse in Hungary. Researchers link these findings to the political climate under the Orbán government, suggesting a connection between the system of governance and the lack of reporting and support for female politicians. The study highlights a concerning pattern of gender-based political violence and a culture of silence surrounding it within Hungarian politics. This systemic issue appears to be significantly worse in Hungary compared to other nations examined. The findings underscore the need for greater awareness and protective measures for women in Hungarian political life.
