Former Prime Minister Hun Sen, now Senate president, has called for increased protection of the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary. He directed authorities in the four surrounding provinces to intensify efforts against illegal logging and land encroachment. This instruction included a firm warning against allowing the forest to degrade further. The move comes as a response to ongoing concerns about the sanctuary’s vulnerability. Hun Sen convened a meeting with local officials – provincial, district, and commune levels – to emphasize the importance of proactive enforcement. Prey Lang is considered one of Cambodia’s most vital forests, requiring urgent and sustained conservation measures. The aim is to preserve the biodiversity and ecological integrity of the region.
