Hulu has acquired the rights to “The Circle,” the social media-based reality competition series previously streamed on Netflix. The revamped version will feature a combination of celebrity contestants and everyday players, a significant departure from the original format. Additionally, the new series will introduce a new gameplay element allowing players to form alliances before entering the Circle. Hulu intends to launch the series with a longer season order than Netflix’s iterations. Production is slated to begin this month, with the show expected to premiere later this year. The original “The Circle” challenged contestants to win popularity online while posing as anyone they choose, and the Hulu version aims to build on that premise with added strategic layers. This acquisition marks Hulu’s continued investment in unscripted programming.
