A tragic accident near Pété, Senegal, claimed the life of Dr. Ibrahima Sow, director of the hospital of Matam, just hours after he participated in the official launch ceremony of the October Rose 2026 campaign in Ndioum. Dr. Sow was among three hospital directors traveling back when their vehicle crashed around 9:20 PM. The accident resulted in one fatality – Dr. Sow – and two injuries. The injured director of the hospital of Ourossogui was transported to his hospital for treatment, while the director of the hospital of Agnam sustained minor injuries. It is believed the driver attempted to avoid an animal in the road. This incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by livestock roaming national roads in Senegal, particularly at night when visibility is limited. Dr. Sow was appointed director of the regional hospital center of Matam in March 2025, having previously worked in Dakar's Abass Ndao Hospital.
