The Asian Migrants’ Coordinating Body (AMCB) in Hong Kong is advocating for improved rights and protections for foreign domestic workers. On International Domestic Workers Day, the NGO called for a minimum wage of HK$6,172, standardized working hours, and improved living conditions. A key demand is the abolishment of the mandatory “live-in” arrangement currently required of most foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. The AMCB also seeks the removal of a rule requiring workers to leave the city within two weeks of contract termination. These demands aim to address concerns about exploitation and ensure fair treatment for the city’s significant population of domestic workers. The organization argues these changes are essential for providing a living wage and dignified working conditions.
