Greenpeace Hong Kong has raised concerns about increasing overtourism following a surge in visitors during mainland China’s National Day holiday. The environmental organization documented thousands of visitors at various ecotourism locations across Hong Kong, resulting in dozens of reported cases of environmental damage. This influx occurred during the week-long break and has prompted calls for action from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) and the Environment and Ecology Bureau. Greenpeace warns that the popularity of these sites is threatening their ecological integrity. The NGO stresses the need for sustainable tourism management to protect Hong Kong’s natural environment. They are urging officials to address the issue before further damage occurs, showcasing the vulnerability of Hong Kong’s ecotourism assets.
